The 2014 Mammoth Fall Century & Gran Fondo has new short course routes this year. The event is just about 3 weeks from now on Saturday September 6th. Sign-up before Saturday, August 30th at www.FallCentury.org to save $20. To learn more about the new short course routes, take a look below.
Full Disclosure: The detailed account of the new short courses below is REALLY long, however, if you are considering riding either the Piccolo or Medio routes, you may find this information interesting and hopefully, we'll inspire you to consider riding one of them and bring your friends too!
Try one of these if you aren't ready to ride the longer 102 mile Fall Century or Gran Fondo routes.
Here is the 411 on the New Short Courses!
A bit of history first. In 2013, for the first time in the event”s 20 year history, we started and finished the Fall Century & Gran Fondo in Mammoth Lakes at The Village. However, short course riders started and finished from the old starting area at the Whitmore Ball Fields several miles south of Mammoth with many, but not all of the short course riders coming up to the after-ride party at The Village in Mammoth after completing their rides.
It turns out that The Village was a great place for people to cool off, relax in chairs at nice dinner tables and listen to live music and our DJ for as long as they wanted. While the wind was blowing down at Whitmore, the weather and temperature at The Village was beautiful for the party.
Creating new short course routes and starting and finishing the short courses at The Village in Mammoth is really about re-unifying the whole event, providing a better overall experience for all of our participants and having more fun.
We realize some of our veteran short course riders would rather ride the old short course routes and continue to start and finish at the Whitmore Ball Fields, however, we want to ask all of you to just give one of the short course routes a try this year and see if the whole experience isn’t at least as much fun or maybe even more fun than doing it the old way. Sometimes changing things around works out as a pleasant surprise.
