THE MMCF MISSION
Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation is a charitable non-profit organization that brings people who love Mammoth together for our kids. We fund educational and athletic programs and facilities.

We believe that Mammoth is a place where educated, healthy children are at the heart of a strong, vibrant and enduring community. Community starts with our children—those who live in Mammoth and those who may live elsewhere in California and the world but whose hearts and dreams are in the mountains.

Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation funds and implements academic, athletic and outdoor programs that bring kids from different backgrounds together to learn, compete, talk, become lifelong friends and ultimately realize their full potential. Bringing kids and their families together around shared mountain experiences is what the extended Mammoth community is all about. Whether you’re in Mammoth on the weekends or for a lifetime, you are a member of this community.

MMCF offers grants to local schools to support their ski and snowboard PE programs, scholarships to young athletes to enable participation on the Mammoth Ski and Snowboard Teams and has given over $1,000,000 to the Mammoth Unified School District since 2010 to support K-12 educational programming. Part of our support for local students and athletes includes summer training and cycling programs. Partnering with Sierra Cycling Foundation and Footloose Sports in Mammoth Lakes, MMCF has purchased 36 road bikes for young athletes. MMCF has also started a youth mountain bike program offering guided rides every week throughout summer and fall with free bike use for kids.

HISTORY OF THE MAMMOTH FALL CENTURY AND GRAN FONDO
The original High Sierra Fall Century (renamed to "Mammoth Fall Century & Gran Fondo in 2013/2014) was started 1994 by a small group of individuals and the Sierra Cycling Foundation (SCF).  In 2001, that "small group of individuals" became Eastside Velo Cycling Club.  Less than 20 riders rode the first HSFC and Eastside Velo's early membership was equally small.  In 2013, over 1000 riders participated in the Mammoth Fall Century & Gran Fondo and Eastside Velo continues as a very active road cycling club and now has over 270 rider members about equally divided between women and men.

Even though in 2013 Sierra Cycling Foundation donated all of its equipment and many resources to the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation (MMCF) and handed over operational control of the Mammoth Fall Century and Gran Fondo, together with Eastside Velo, Sam Mudie, SCF's founder and director continues to run SCF and will collaborate with MMCF.  During the next decade, Sierra Cycling Foundation will contribute annual funds to MMCF for the development of a junior cycling and racing program in Mammoth Lakes.  A big thank you is due Sam Mudie for his avid support of cycling in Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra over the last 30 years!

Here is a detailed description of the Sierra Cycling Foundation's activities over the last 30 years.  The Sierra Cycling Foundation (SCF) is an advocacy group founded in 1983 to promote safe bicycling opportunities for fitness, recreation, rehabilitation and transportation within the Eastern Sierra. SCF emphasizes bicycle-safety training for  children, mandatory helmet laws, and safer road conditions by working with both the Mammoth Lakes Parks and Recreation Department, and the  Mammoth Lakes Police Department.

Our mission is to promote cycling and improve cycling conditions in the Eastern Sierra. SCF advocates safe and enjoyable cycling routes both on and off-road, and provides bicycle safety information and equipment to cyclists visiting and living in the Eastern Sierra.  We are members of the California Bicycle Coalition, the League of American Bicyclists and participants in the California Bicycle Advisory Committee and the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition.

The Sierra Cycling Foundation, in partnership with the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation (MMCF), purchased 10 Specialized road bicycles in sizes from 49cm to 56 cm for dry-land training for the local junior alpine and nordic ski teams and  the snowboard race team to use for off-season conditioning.  You will see these bikes and the young athletes riding them in the Mammoth Fall Century and Gran Fondo.  SCF is also in preliminary discussions with Mammoth High School regarding the establishment of a high school mountain bike and road bike development and race team.
